From May 28 to 30, 2020, the 2nd China-Europe International Silicon Photonics Course and Symposium were successfully held in Chongqing, during which the much-anticipated PDK 180nm technology launch conference by China United Microelectronics Center (CUMEC) was successfully held on May 30.
The launch conference was attended by nearly 300 people, including relevant leaders from Chongqing Development and Reform Commission, Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau, Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission and senior experts from the Technology Department of China Electronic Technology Group Corporation (CETC), and universities, research institutes and enterprises from Belgium, the United Kingdom, and China. Through on-site and on-line meetings, the attendees shared and communicated about the technical advantages and application prospects of silicon optoelectronics, and comprehensively discussed the future of silicon photonics from opportunities, challenges, and development directions. The launch conference aimed to further the exchanges and cooperation between China’s and Europe’s top research institutions in the field of silicon photonics and promote the development of China’s silicon photonics industry.
Lin Jinchao, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Chongqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Chongqing HIDZ), said that the forum, as an open and free academic technology platform, focuses on the latest advances in silicon optoelectronics and has built a bridge of communication between scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs from China and Europe.
At the following symposium, Dr. Guo Jin, Deputy General Manager of CUMEC, delivered a keynote speech, introducing CUMEC’s PDK technology to attendees in detail. Afterward, Dr. Huang Weiping, Chief Scientist of Hisense Broadband, and Dr. Xiao Xi, General Manager of the National Optoelectronics Innovation Center, delivered a speech respectively on the R&D and application of silicon photonics technology.
In recent years, relying on the optoelectronic and microelectronic devices and systems, as well as the national innovation base’s layout in the field of silicon optoelectronics, Chongqing HIDZ has set up the CUMEC, increased input in the scientific research base, R&D platform, talent team, and whole-process packaging process, and developed preliminary abilities to gather talent, undertake major innovation tasks, support public innovation platforms and fabricate integrated circuit products for export, which can help Chongqing improve its integrated circuit industry chain and enhance its integrated circuit industry system.
